From Desiccant Supplier to Moisture Management Specialist

Over the years, we have evolved from a traditional desiccant supplier into a specialized development, consulting, and manufacturing company for professional moisture management. Our company history shows how desiccants developed from a secondary packaging product into a critical element of product protection, and how we built the expertise required to deliver effective moisture control solutions.

Elevating the Role of Desiccants

Over the years, our customers have come to recognize that desiccants are far more than a simple packaging accessory. They are an essential element of product protection and manufacturing processes. Today, desiccants are used to protect sensitive and high-value products, including electronic components, semiconductors, and telecommunications equipment. The costs associated with moisture damage far exceed the investment required for a reliable desiccant solution, whether the desiccant is used as packaging material or as a system component. Beyond selecting the right desiccant, we provide process expertise across the entire value chain.

Reliable Product Protection for Stringent Requirements

Our company history demonstrates how desiccants have evolved from a secondary product into a critical factor in product integrity and component performance. As specialists in customized solutions and high quality standards, particularly for industries with stringent regulatory requirements, we continue to help our customers integrate the right desiccant safely and efficiently into their packaging processes or manufacturing systems.

  • 2026

Launch of TROcarbon® sachets with activated carbon
for simultaneous moisture and odor adsorption

  • In 2026, we launched TROcarbon®. By combining desiccant materials with activated carbon, TROcarbon® sachets provide the added benefit of odor adsorption alongside moisture adsorption. With this expansion of our portfolio, we are increasingly focusing on products closely related to desiccants while continuing to develop new innovations.

  • Customer Growth: 2025

    1.059 customers from 52 countries

  • 2023

Marco Nickel and Sven Schultheiß become shareholders

  • In 2023, Marco Nickel and healthcare and desiccant industry expert Sven Schultheiß also became shareholders, creating a strong basis for continuity, growth, and future development.

  • 2022

    Gebhardt Holding becomes shareholder
Planned retirement of company founder Reinhard Kipke
    Development of TROPAgreen®

  • In 2022, the entry of Gebhardt Holding as a shareholder laid the foundation for a stable long-term ownership structure and strategic direction.

  • In September 2022, our founder Reinhard Kipke retired as planned after more than 30 years with the company. Since then, Marco Nickel has served as our sole Managing Director.

  • Expanding Our Product Portfolio

Since then, we have continuously expanded our product portfolio. In 2022, we developed TROPAgreen®, our first fully compostable desiccant sachet. This innovation reflects our commitment to sustainability and our determination to reduce packaging waste and promote circular materials within global supply chains. Conserving resources such as energy, packaging materials, and raw materials remains a guiding principle of our business activities.

  • 2019

Marco Nickel appointed Managing Director with sole authority

  • In 2019, we began the generational transition in our leadership team when Marco Nickel was appointed CEO with sole authority to represent the company.

  • 2017

Introduction of Rubingel and Orangegel indicator silica gels
    for saturation monitoring

  • We diversified our traditional product range and, in 2017, introduced indicator desiccants such as Rubingel and Orangegel, which provide a precise visual indication of desiccant saturation through color change.

  • 2016

Marco Nickel joins the management team

  • From 2016: Strategic Realignment Toward Pharma, Diagnostics and Food

With Marco Nickel joining our management team in 2016, we initiated a strategic realignment of our business. We identified pharmaceuticals, healthcare, diagnostics, and food as key growth markets and have continuously expanded our regulatory expertise to develop solutions tailored to the demanding requirements of these industries.

  • At the same time, we reorganized our portfolio according to application: packaging materials or components. We placed greater emphasis on desiccants as integrated system components. Our continued development has been shaped by the introduction of additional proprietary brands, a consistent commitment to quality, and increased internationalization.

  • Customer Growth: 2012

    989 customers from 45 countries

  • 2007

Launch of TROPAsorb® highly active container desiccants

  • In 2007, we registered our first trademark, TROPAsorb®, creating a dedicated brand for our container desiccants. TROPAsorb® was developed to prevent condensation damage in freight containers during overseas transport and continues to do so today.

  • 2003

First use of desiccants as a component in automotive applications

  • Automotive: From Packaging Material to Functional Component

In 2003, we reached an important milestone when desiccants evolved from a packaging material into a fixed component in automotive applications. Because moisture can cause costly failures in electronic systems, desiccants became an essential functional element of industrial products. This development required us to invest in new manufacturing technologies and machinery, as well as more sophisticated quality processes, audits, and documentation systems.

  • Customer Growth: 2001

    644 customers from 23 countries

  • 1990s: Focus on Corrosion Protection for Export Packaging

Our first customers were primarily manufacturing companies that used desiccants to protect machinery and machine components from corrosion during export shipments. While we already served a number of pharmaceutical customers at that time, the sector had not yet become one of our core markets. We also supplied desiccant solutions for optical applications in the defense industry.

Our local manufacturing capabilities in Germany quickly became a competitive advantage. Over time, highly regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals and automotive became part of our customer base.

  • Customer Growth: 1991

    96 customers from 5 countries

  • TROPACK was founded in 1991 by Reinhard Kipke, building on a predecessor business that had already established initial customer relationships and supplier partnerships. This enabled us to begin distributing desiccants from our site in Lahnau on a solid foundation. From the very beginning, we recognized that customers needed customized solutions. As a result, we soon introduced our first value-added processes and installed our own equipment for manufacturing desiccant sachets.
